Intro to Zen Class
Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Intro to Zen class will be held the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. via Zoom. The Virtual Practice page for Zoom information. The instruction will cover the “basics” of Zen including a brief historical overview and basics in meditation. The class is intended to provide a friendly orientation and space for Q&A. No RSVP required.
DMZC also offers this Intro to Zen talk that can be listened to at any time.

Join us for 40 minutes of zazen (sitting meditation) on Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. and Sundays at 7:10 and 8:00 a.m. If you’re new, please come 15 minutes early for a quick orientation. CANCELED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE – The Des Moines Zen Center is offering childcare on Sunday mornings. Children of all ages, from infants to school-age, are welcome. Children will be supervised by adults downstairs during the Sunday 8:00 zazen period. Plan to arrive by 7:50 so that the children can be dropped off prior to the beginning of zazen.

Zen Study Group
A small group meets the last three Wednesdays of the month to discuss various Zen topics. Books may be discussed, but are not required. Newcomers are welcome. The Zen Study group starts at 6:50 p.m. following the sitting meditation that starts at 6:00 p.m..

Ryumonji Zen Monastery
The Des Moines Zen Center is primarily affiliated with the Ryumonji Zen Monastery in northeast Iowa. The temple regularly hosts retreats of various lengths and themes.
